Info for anyone that is coming to an internship in our wonderful country!
If you are an IAESTE trainee, please make sure you receive and return the form N/5b «Confirmation of Acceptance», to the IAESTE National Office in your country within two weeks. If you fail to do this, the preparations for your stay in Macedonia might be delayed.
Information about the visas you can find on the following link: http://www.mfa.gov.mk/index.php/en/for-foreign-nationals/entry-visa-for-the-republic-of-macedonia/entry-visa-for-the-republic-of-macedonia
You will have to send our Incoming responsible an email with details of your arrival (exact date, hour, and place). When we get this information we’ll send someone to pick you up. It would be good if your email includes contact phone or other way to communicate you during your journey in case something changes. Please send the above mentioned details to the e-mail address incoming.iaestemkd@gmail.com.
Check that you have a health insurance that is valid in Macedonia. Except for health insurance we strongly advise you to arrange a traveler’s insurance and insurance for personal possessions against theft, loss or breakage prior to arrival in your home country.
Normally the LC or the company arranges your accommodation (i.e., student houses, company houses, private rooms, shared flats, etc).
If you are coming during the summer, you will have to pay the 2 weeks rent in advance (around 40 euro) and usually a deposit of around 20 euros. If you want to move to another accommodation, other the one you have been assigned to, keep in mind that generally you have to take care of everything by yourself. Don’t forget that you MUST also inform the IAESTE office of your new address. If you are coming before or after the summer, we will do our best to find you accommodation with similar prices, but can’t promise anything, because the school year is on.
Before moving out, you must always give advance notice to your landlord as mentioned in your contract. Otherwise, you will have to pay the rent until the end of your lease. Don’t forget that you must also inform the IAESTE office of your new address as well as your tutor or the person that found the original accommodation.
Your salary will usually be sufficient to meet the costs of living for one person but not necessarily to cover extra expenses. In Macedonia, you have to pay the rent in advance at the beginning of each month. At the same time, you will probably also have to pay a security deposit (around 20 euros). The salary, however, is usually paid at the end of your internship. Therefore make sure that you have access to enough money (cash, credit card or bank account) until you get your first pay. If, for any reason, you do not have enough money at the beginning of your stay, ask your company to give you an advance payment. There are no currency restrictions about entering Macedonia with cash.
IAESTE Macedonia for years now has been the synonym for a national committee with the best organized summer reception. Since the majority of the trainees arrive in the summer two Summer Reception Officers (SROs) are assigned to take care of them and everything that is needed to be done during their stay, so that they feel as welcomed and comfortable as possible. The SROs are helped by the two-weeks coordinators who arrange a weekly agenda, providing the trainees to get to know the places around the city, attend current happenings and all the while hang out with the people here and feel at home with the town.
But the trainees’ favourite activities are in the weekends. Every second weekend is usually a reserved for a trip to the most famous beautiful and memorable destinations around Macedonia, sometimes between cities with other LCs.
