In 1952, the University of Belgrade joined IAESTE as its 16th member country. Shortly afterwards the local committees in Zagreb, Ljubljana and Skopje were opened. From the foundation of the local committee in Skopje until the dissolution of Yugoslavia all the administrative aspects have been completed in Belgrade. During this period, around 200 students from the University of Skopje – “Ss. Cyril and Methodius”, got the chance to travel around the world and finish professional internships in big and small companies with the help of the IAESTE program.
After the dissolution of Yugoslavia, in January 1992, the students from the local committee IAESTE Macedonia at that time, formed a citizens’ association with a purpose to carry on the IAESTE program. The association gоt the name “Macedonian Board for International Exchange of Students from the Technical Faculties” with its headquarters in Skopje, at the Electrotechnical and Mechanical Faculty and joined IAESTE as an associate member. At the General Conference in Mexico, IAESTE Macedonia got the status of a fulltime member country of IAESTE. Since then, 4 local committees have been opened: at the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje, at the University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in Bitola, at the University “Goce Delchev” in Shtip and at the University “St. Paul the Apostle” in Ohrid. Since 1992, these committees have sent more than 500 students on internships abroad and have included over 100 Macedonian companies in the exchange program. Many of our professors, scientists and corporates remember these internships abroad through IAESTE.
